TWS 1: The surprising power of stillness (and what it taught me)

A few weeks ago, I realized I hadn’t truly paused in… I don’t know how long.

Sure, I’d taken breaks — scrolled through Instagram, half-watched Netflix while replying to texts, even “relaxed” with a drink once or twice. But my mind? It was still spinning. Like a browser with 43 tabs open and music playing from… somewhere?

Then one evening, I sat on my porch, barefoot. No phone. Just the sound of the breeze and my own breath. And you know what? It felt weird. Boring. Restless. Then… grounding.

That 15-minute moment of nothing turned into a little ritual. Most nights now, I sit still. Sometimes with a cup of herbal tea. Sometimes with a Sprinkle packet stirred into something sparkling. (The CHILL one is my go-to — a gentle nudge into exhale mode.)

And something shifted.

It turns out that calm is not a reward for finishing your to-do list. It’s a practice — one that rewires your nervous system, helps your body process stress, and gives your brain the space it needs to make better decisions (or just… exist without pressure).

🧠 According to studies, intentional rest:

  • Improves memory retention

  • Lowers cortisol and inflammation

  • Boosts creativity

  • Helps regulate emotional reactions

So if you're waiting for permission to rest — here it is. You don’t have to earn it. You just have to choose it.

Try this mini calm challenge tonight:

  • Step outside. No screen. Just breathe.

  • Sip something warm or fizzy that makes you feel good

  • Close your eyes for 60 seconds and let your shoulders drop

Optional: Add a little Sprinkle if you want to invite the calm in faster. You don’t need it — but it helps.

This is Email 1 in our "Live Lightly" series. Next week: movement, and why 10 minutes of joyful motion might be your new secret weapon for focus and mental clarity.

Until then — be still. Be gentle. Be here.
